The Study On Beijing’s Common Ornamental Grasses And Its Application To Landscape

As a kind of new material for the landscape design, the ornamental grass has its good viewing and wide adaptability. The research on the theory and landscape application of the ornamental grass has its deeper meaning in improving the biodiversity in the urban ecosystem, enriching the urban landscapes, improving the ecological environment and promoting the sustainable development of the landscaping. This research is made by the methods combined with survey and informal discussion so as to investigate the current situation of the ornamental grasses and the forms of their application in the gardens and parks in the area of Beijing. The conclusion of the research is that there is a more wide application of the ornamental grasses in the newly built gardens and parks in the area of Beijing at present and that the aquatic plants are the main ornamental grasses applied in the newly build gardens and parks. Meanwhile, it puts forward some problems existing in the application of the ornamental grasses such as insufficient awareness, less application varieties, single form and urgently-improved quality of the seedlings. Moreover, there is a lack of theoretical research and application in introduction, breeding, species reproduction, garden design and other aspects of the ornamental grasses. Finally, it shows that the application of the ornamental grasses is popular in foreign countries and but it is an emerging thing in China. There are some differences between the viewing effect of the ornamental grasses and the aesthetic concepts about the traditional Chinese garden art. So the application development of the ornamental grasses also needs a process to gradually explore and practice. With the continuous development of landscaping construction in Beijing, the ornamental grass gradually becomes a kind of regular landscape plant. The landscaping of the ornamental grasses in the roadside green space and parks both beautifies the environment and enriches the people’s scientific knowledge. Meanwhile, people can also enjoy the rural ecological environment and pleasure of leisure. It is believed that more and more people will recognize the application value of the ornamental grasses with the further acquaintance and promotion of the landscape plant growers and users. There will be a broad prospect of landscape and a better opportunity on the application of the ornamental grasses.
