Under the background of the global climate warming, shortage of resources, ecological crisis increasingly prominent, and that the world are paying attention to green growth and sustainable development. It has the bright contemporary and practical significance to discuss the forest sustainable management and seek economic and social sustainable development. In this paper, five main stand types in Badaling Area are investigated, combing the research of these stand type areas and management situation. Under the guidance of the sustainable forest management theory, an evaluating indicator system of sustainable management of these stand types is established. An evaluation is carried out according to the system, and the results are as follows:(1) This research provided a comprehensive evaluating indicator system based on forest stand which involving target method, expert consultation method and analytic hierarchy process, combined with the relevant theory and technology of sustainable forest management. This system included a twenty-one indicators’layer falling in five criterion layers that contained forest productivity, forest ecological functions, forest biodiversity, forest resistibility and socio-economic benefits. Eleven standard plots involved were established to accomplish the survey for forest sustainable management evaluation indicators. The status on forest sustainable management was evaluated by the value-indicators provided by the system after they were standardized weighted.(2) The results showed that, in the coniferous, all three Pinus tabulaeformis were in the moderate weak state of the sustainable management while Platycladus orientalis in the weak. In Pinus tabulaeformis mixed stand, Pinus tabulaeformi-oak mixed stand, Pinus tabulaeformi-Acer truncatum mixed stand and Pinus tabulaeformi-Larix principis mixed stand were in the medium strong state of the sustainable management, however, Pinus tabulaeformi-Prunus armeniaca mixed stand and Pinus tabulaeformi-Robinia pseudoacacia mixed stand were in the moderate weak.At last, in broad-leaved forest, Acer truncatum and Robinia pseudoacacia were in the moderate weakness of the sustainable management. The evaluation results not only basically reflected the current Badaling moutain area sustainable management level, but also in line with the actual situation of the development of landscape water conservation forest in Badaling moutain area.(3) The analysis of evaluation shows that the main factors constraining the Badaling’s five main stands’sustainable management consisted of pests, diseases, forest fires, irrational stand structure, stand landscape, poor status of both litter in the forest and forest regeneration, poor capability of anti-interference of human disturbance and extensive forest management, etc.Overall, sustainable management level of five types of stands is still not ideal, the farm need to take measures to improve stand quality timely. According to preliminary results of the evaluation, management strategies and measures were proposed for different stand types which combined with the actual situation of stands, which laid a good foundation for scientific management and scientific management of main stand types in Badaling moutain area.
