Grafting technology has been widely used at home and abroad for horticultural facilities. The ability of resisting soil borne diseases of plants becomes stronger, and the survival rate of grafted seedlings is improved at the same time. Selection of root seedlings with strong adaptability can improve the land use efficiency and the quality of vegetables, etc. However, when the grafting by artificial classification of rootstock and scion seedling grafting to improve quality, it has low degree of automation. This paper based on the current research situation of vegetable grafting machine has selected "attached" grafted. The automatic grading and seedling device of melon grafting machine is studied, which lay the foundation for the development and research of the automatic vegetable grafting machine.The main results are as following:(1) The paper analyzes research status of current domestic and foreign grafting machine, automatic seedling device and grading device. The key components of grafting machine, intelligent grading and seedling device, is compared and the specific structure is determined.(2) Based on Solidworks to design mechanical structure of intelligent grading and seedling device of grafting machine, including rootstock seedlings automatic picking device, scion seedlings automatic seedling device and rootstock seedling grading alternative library in three parts. the key parts of the mechanical device were designed, including the end effector, tray conveying device, rootstock alternative library turntable device, alternative library sliding barrel and stock seedling positioning device etc. At the same time, twin cylinder, gas dynamic finger cylinder, step-motor and conveyer belt are selected.(3) The software and hardware of the control system of automatic grading and seedling device are designed. The program flow chart of the control system is drawn. Control program is completed with FX-WIN-C program and FX1N PLC and debug the program. The results show that control system is clear and logical, and it can achieve the expected function of the mechanical device, and the performance is good.(4) Experimental study on intelligent grading and seedling device. The experiment is done with 72 strains of stock seedlings. The results show that the device can basically meet design requirements and achieve the function of grading and seedling. The success rate of the stock seedlings is 70.8%.
