Seven varieties of Pennisetum JUNCAO include P. purpureum cv.Jujuncao, P.purureum Schum cv.Purple, P. purpureum Schum. Huanan, P. purpureum Schum cv.Huanan Xijing, P.purpureum X P.tyhoideum cv.Reyan NO.4, P.americanum X P.purpureum, P.purpureum.Schum. cv.Guiminyin were studied in this experiment. The Juncao varieties were sampled at the growing time of 90,130,170,210 days respectively. Nutritional composition, Cornell net carbohydrate protein composition and amino acid content were determined and analyzed. The aim was to provide scientific basis for the efficient using Pennisetum JUNCAO in the development of resource and establishing nutrition peculiarity database of Pennisetum JUNCAO.Experiment 1:Common conventional nutrients of Pennisetum JUNCAO were analyzed by Weende and Van soest methods. The results showed that the crude protein (CP) content of JUNCAO decreased with the growth time except the Purple. The CP content of seven Pennisetum JUNCAO varieties at 90 days were 9.00%~10.74% respectively and higher than other time group (P<0.0l). Both the content of neutral detergent fiber(NDF) and acidic detergent fiber(ADF) for seven pennisetum JUNCAO varieties in 90 days were lowest and increased with growth time. The content of ADF at 90 days were 38.30%~42.47% and the NDF were 61.38%-61.38%. The content of ADF at 90 days for P. americanum X P.purpureum were lower than 130 days (P<0.05), the content of ADF, NDF at 90 days for the rest JUNCAO varieties were lower than other groups (P<0.01).Experiment 2:Nutrition component of Pennisetum JUNCAO were Analyzed by CNCPS. The results showed that the protein component B1 (PB1) of seven Pennisetum JUNCAO varieties decreased with the growth time. Protein components B2 (PB2) was rich in JUNCAO which were the highest in the protein components. The content of PB2 mostly distributed in 21.46%-64.33%. The protein component C (PC) is the lowest in 90 days and maintenance distributed in 7.17%-17.72%. The content of PC showed a trend of obviously rising with the growth time. Seven Pennisetum JUNCAO varieties were rich in total carbohydrate (CHO). The content of CHO were 72.73%~88.94% and increasesed with the growth time (P<0.01). The carbohydrate components A (CA) and carbohydrate B2 (CB2) reduced with the growth time. The content of CB2 is the highest at 90 days which were higher than other group (P<0.01) significantly with the exception of P.purpureum X P.tyhoideum cv.Reyan NO.4.The content of carbohydrates components B1 (CB1) and C (CC) increased with the growth time. The content of CC were 35.38%~46.53% at 210 days and reached the highest level.Experiment 3:A high performance cation-exchange chromatography with ninhydrin post-column derivatiztation method was used to determine amino acid content of Pennisetum JUNCAO. The results showed that seven Pennisetum JUNCAO varieties were rich in flavour amino acids:aspartic acid (Asp), glutamic acid (Glu), alanine (Ala).The content of flavour amino acids reached the highest at 90 days. The content of Asp, Glu, Ala for P. americanum X P.purpureum were 1.405%,1.246%,1.405% respectively which reached the highest comparing with other JUNCAO varieties. The content of limiting amino acid lysine (Lys) and methionine (Met) decreased with the growth time. The content of Met were very low which mainly were 0.004%~0.104% at 90 days. Ecept for the cystine (Cys) of P. purpureum Schum. Huanan and P. purpureum cv.Jujun cao, the content of all amino acid for JUNCAO were the highest at 90 days and decreased (P<0.01)significantly with the growth from 90 days to 170 days. There are no significant different between 170 days and 210 days. The total amino acids (TAA) and TAA/CP of seven Pennisetum JUNCAO at 90 days were the highest and showed a trend of decrease with the growth time.
