The Luhun irrigation area was constructed in 1967 and it was because of the background, the society, the investment policy and the limit of construction technology at that time that there are some problems with this project such as the low design principle, the bad auxiliary facilities and the abundant uncompleted projects. After working for dozens of years, the problems, like the insufficient capacity of bearing flowing, become more and more serious because of the shortage of allowances for maintaining and the backward of management. These problems make negative effects on the security, the benefit and the sustainable developing seriously. The article focus on the research about the capacity of bearing flowing and the main content and results are showed below:(1) Designing a program which can calculate the water surface lines by using JAVA. The program is suitable for prismatic channels and non-prismatic channels. The results show that the practical water surface lines are higher than the designed water surface line, which indicates that the current flow is much lower than the designed flow. In addition, the article finds out factors which lead to the insufficient capability of bearing flow and figures out how much influences these factors make. Finally, the study proposes suggestions to improve conditions of the irrigation area.(2) Numerical simulation on the 3-D flow in the curving channel by using FLUENT. The preprocessing method of the simulation is carried out by ICEM. The turbulent model is set with k-ε model basing on the N-S equation. The study also uses the VOF model to track the free water surface, the finite volume method to discrete equations, the SIMPLE algorithm to solve equations and the CFD-Post to analysis the results. And the simulation shows the longitudinal and transverse water surface lines and the circle flow in the curving channel under different working conditions of flow. Meanwhile, the article studies the influences which the flow in the curving channel makes on the water surface lines by comparing the computational results and the simulation results.
