The potato harvester is an important machine for the production and harvesting of the potato. In recent years, it has been an unprecedented rapid development. The potato harvester is becoming more and more large, automatic and intelligent, and its production efficiency and operating conditions are greatly improved. But the automation level of the potato harvester in China is generally low, the automation degree of the potato harvester is more than 30 years behind compared with foreign countries. In order to improve the degree of automation of the potato harvester in China. Real-time monitoring the working status of the potato harvester, and presents the fault warning in advance, enable the operator to detect anomalies in time and make corresponding adjustment, ensure that the potato harvester is in the best working condition, reduce the failure rate of potato harvester efficiently, improve the work efficiency and performance.In this paper, according to the technical requirements and operation characteristics of the potato harvester, the potato harvester 3D entity model was established by using the Solidworks software, aimed at problems and shortcomings on the design of the traditional potato harvester, the output system of the potato harvester was improved, the output mode of the potato was changed from the middle output to the side output. Reduced the volume of the machine, and reduced the weight, increased the transportation distance of the potato,improved the net rate of the potato. In addition, the mechanical analysis and strength check of the main parts of the harvester were carried out, and the stress analysis was carried out by using the ANSYS finite element software.Based on the potato harvester intelligent monitor system at home and abroad research present situation analysis, the potato harvester fault early warning monitoring device was designed, the main shaft speed, torque, bearing temperature, conveyor chain position, oil pressure and running speed of the harvester were monitored, a monitoring device based on S7-200 PLC and MCGS touch screen was designed, in the working process, the signal was collected by the system in real-time, the collected signal were analyzed and judged by fault monitoring subroutine, the potato harvester fault alarm information and working condition was displayed by the touch screen in real-time. A potato harvester was developed and tested in the field, the results of calculation and the field test showed that, the mechanical structure design of the potato harvester was reasonable, the main shaft speed, torque,bearing temperature, conveyor chain position, oil pressure and running speed of the fault alarm was realized, the performance was reliable and efficiency was high.
