Contrast orthogonal experiments L9(33)were taken on the spring-finger pickup cylinder collector original and improved device at the same time. The effects of the three factors including swath density, cylinder rotational speed and forward speed on collecting performance of 17% moisture content Alfalfa were determined. The optimal combination of these three factors was achieved.The results show that the original device got the lowest power consumption when swath density was 4 kg-h-1, the cylinder rotational speed was 42r-min-1 and forward speed was 5 km·h-1; the improved one got the lowest power consumption when swath density was 3 kg-h-1, the cylinder rotational speed was 42 r.min-1 and forward speed was 4 km·h-1; The power consumption of the improved device increased by 7.33% than the original’s. The factors affect power consumption from highest to lowest was cylinder rotational speed, swath density and forward speed.The original device got the lowest leakage collecting rate when swath density was 4 kg·h-1, the cylinder rotational speed was 60r·min-1 and forward speed was 5 km·h-1, the factors affect leakage collecting rate from highest to lowest was cylinder rotational speed, swath density and forward speed. The improved device got the lowest leakage collecting rate when swath density was 3.5kg·h-1, the cylinder rotational speed was 42r·min-1 and forward speed was 5 km·h-1, the factors affect leakage collecting rate from highest to lowest was forward speed,cylinder rotational speed and swath density. The factors affect leakage collecting rate from highest to lowest was cylinder rotational speed, swath density and forward speed. The leakage collecting rate of the improved device decreased by 17.81% than the original’s.By means of high-speed camera and the frequency analysis, it is found that the improved device got the lower acceleration peak value of spring-finger than the original’s, and the spring-finger movement of the improved device is more stable. Along with the increase of the swath density at different cylinder rotational speeds, the linear acceleration of the end of spring-finger becomes larger.
