Objective:The purpose of this study was to find out the prevalence and social demographic characteristics of body dysmorphic disorder in cosmetic plastic surgery seekers,to observe psychological differences between seekers with body dysmorphic disorder and those without body dysmorphic disorder,to analyze disorder’s comorbidity in body dysmorphic disorder.Methods:157cosmetic plastic surgery seekers were evaluated with cosmetic mental states self-scale(CMSS) and symptom checklist90(SCL-90) questionnaires.According to CMSS questionnaire, all subjects divided into two groups:group with body dysmorphic disorder and group without body dysmorphic disorder,then compare differences between the two groups.Results:1.In this study, the overall prevalence of body dysmorphic disorder in cosmetic plastic surgery seekers was15.9%;2.The most common comorbidity in body dysmorphic disorder were obsessive compulsive symptom, interpersonal sensitivity and depression;3.The somatization, obsessive compulsive symptom, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, anger-hostility, paranoid and psychotism mean scores in SCL-90of body dysmorphic disorder subjects were signigicantly higher than that of subjects without body dysmorphic disorder,and the differences were statistically significant;4. The phobic anxiety mean score in SCL-90of body dysmorphic disorder seekers was higher than that of subjects without body dysmorphic disorder, but not at a statistically significant level;5.There was statistically difference in the gender,age and the present satisfiction between subjects with body dysmorphic disorder and those without body dysmorphic disorder.Subjects with body dysmorphic disorder did not statistically differ from those without body dysmorphic disorder in terms of marital status,nation,educational level,income and patients’educational background.Conclusions:1.Body dysmorphic disorder is the frequent psychological complication in cosmetic plastic surgery seekers, body dysmorphic disorder patients had apparent compulsive behavior,depression and social functional impairment;2.Male,less than39years old,dissatisfaction with present situation were body dysmorphic disorder high-risk population.
