A Correlation Study Between Urine Iodine And Nodular Goiter And The Expression Of Sodium/Iodine Symporter(NIS) In Nodular Goiter

Objective:1. Analysis the correlation between the urinary iodine and nodular goiter.2. Investigate the expression of Sodium/iodide symporter(NIS) in nodular goiter.Methods:1. We select152patients with nodular goiters who had confirmed by pathology in Department of General Surgery of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital from July,2013to November,2013.150cases without thyroid nodules were used to contrast. Detection urine iodine content of the302cases and statistic analysis the relevant data of each group.2. Samples of normal thyroid tissues(40cases) and nodular goiters(40cases) were collected to examine the expression of NIS by immunohistochemistry.Results:1.The median of urine iodine (MUI)of the nodular goiter group was lower than the control group (139.42ug/L VS156.09ug/L), the nodular goite group and the control group were adequate iodine. The MUI between the nodular goite group and control group,the difference had no statistical significance(Wilcoxon test, P>0.05).2. The median of urine iodine of single nodule group was lower than normal control group and multiple nodules group (single nodule96.11ug/L, multiple nodules159.24ug/L, normal control group156.09ug/L), the difference had statistical significance(P<0.05), The MUI between multiple nodules group and normal control group,the difference had no statistical significance(P>0.05).3. Immunohistochemistry results showed NIS protein of nodular goiter was mainly located in cytoplasm and cytomembrane. The expression of NIS protein was markedly higher in nodular goiter than in normal thyroid tissues(t=2.139, P<0.05).Conclusions:1. The patients with nodular goiter who accepted operationd treatment suffer adequate iodine in Tianjin. 2.The incidence of nodular goiter and urinary iodine no related. The median of urine iodine of single nodule group was lower than multiple nodules group.Further research is required on the relationship between solitary nodular goiter and iodine level.3. The expression of NIS protein was markedly higher in nodular goiter than in normal thyroid tissues.NIS protein of nodular goiter was mainly located in cytoplasm and cytomembrane.
