The study did focus on the role of Saururus chinensis, which was investigated rarely, incomestics. The experiment was divided into four sections: firstly, the extraction process of theantioxidant ingredient was optimized by orthogonal design test. The second section was toseparate, purify and identify the antioxidant ingredient in extracts. The third section was toinvestigate the cosmetical functions of extracts from Saururus chinensis, including antioxidantactivity, whitening performance, antibacterial activity and stability. The last part was aboutapplication research on the extracts in cosmetics.First, I used ultrasonic technology to extract antioxidant ingredient and determined thethe scavenging effects of the extracts on DPPH free radical. Through single-factor experimentand the orthogonal design text, it showed the best concentration of ethanol was70%, time forextraction was50min, ratio of solid/liquid was1:18and temperature was50°C.To further study antioxidant ingredient of Saururus chinensis, solvent extraction methodswere used and it suggested the ethyl acetate part as the best effective part. By analyzing theethyl acetate part with TLC method and reagents reaction, the results proved the antioxidantpart was flavone. Then silica gel column chromatography was employed twice to separate andpurify the ethyl acetate part, the B4and F4section having stronger antioxidant activity.Compared with the standard, it was proved that the main antioxidant ingredient in Saururuschinensiswas quercetin and rutin through analyzing by HPLC, UV and MS chromatogram. In the third section, I investigated the function of extracts from Saururus chinensis incosmetics. The extracts had good antioxidant activity through the study of the scavengingeffects on free radical. And the results of cell biology experiments showed that the extractscould inhibit the proliferational rate of B16melanoma cells, the activity of tyrosinase and theextracts reduced the number of melanin. So the extracts had good whitening performance. Iused filter paper method to determine the antibacterial circle diameter of S.aureus and E.coli.The result showed the extracts had antibacterial activity, good thermal stability and lightstability. At the last of the paper, in order to study the application of the extracts from Saururuschinensis in cosmetics, I added the extracts of Saururus chinensis into skin care cream.Through some experiments on volunteers, the cream possessed anti-aging, skin-lighting effectand its skin-lighting effect was better than the cram which contained arbutin.
