AimThe article was to understand the epidemic situation and change trend of serious mental illness about the city, and the main risk factor of urban and rural populations in the City, analyze the social and demographic factors of severe illness, and discuss the recovery of social function of the patients with serious mental illness and its control strategy.MethodsHousehold surveys on urban and rural residents in12districts were performed using census and questionnaire. The demographic data of a municipal public security bureau showed that total population of the city was7,627,499at the end of2012.All the residents in community were investigated in clue, a community was taken as a unit. Cases were diagnosed and re-checked, which are based on the finished results. Then, the ascertained patients are analyzed in descriptive epidemiological methods.Results1. A total of14446cases of patients with serious mental illness was reported by the survey. The total point prevalence rate was1.89‰by the end of2012. There was11200schizophrenia patients cases, with point prevalence of1.47‰;1141cases of mental retardation, point prevalence of0.15‰; mental disorder due to epilepsy in802cases, point prevalence of0.11‰; dual phase (emotional) disorder in407cases, point prevalence of0.08‰; schizoaffective disorder in401cases, point prevalence was0.05‰;134cases of paranoid psychosis, point prevalence of0.02‰. The highest incidence is schizophrenia about six kinds of severe mental illness in the city.2. In the survey, there were a severe mental illness cases were reported in the city, the incidence is higher than the average level of the county with F (2.37‰),J(2.17‰), K(2.05‰), C (2.04‰), reported a total of4758cases, accounting for the report32.94%of the total cases.3. In the survey, severe mental illness population case were reported in various age groups, the age group of55-64years old group with high incidence (3.33‰) and45-54group (3.31‰); the incidence rate of male and female was1.82%o and1.97‰, females slightly higher than men.4. In the survey, from a major mental illness demographic data, the incidence of farmers reported a total of8713cases, accounting for60.31%of the total reported cases. The majority of people were the age of onset,35to64age group people were reported in9631patients, accounting for49.99%of the total reported cases. The male to female ratio was1:1.05. Married people were in the highest incidence, accounting for49.99%of the total number of reported incidence. The incidence of the cultural level is generally low.Conclusions1. The incidence of mental illness reaches to1.89‰in a city. Among the six severe mental illnesses, the schizophrenia has the highest incidence, which is key task to prevent and control in the future.2. The incidence of mental illness in a city is that rural area is higher than urban area; female is higher than male, the age of illness people focus on over35years. This situation suggested that the rural area is the key area in prevention and control. Female and middle-aged young people are the key crowd to prevent and control.3. In reported cases, people with severe mental illness mainly focus on farmer, people with lower education, impoverished and married people.
