BACKGROUND: The study was supported by the National Natural ScienceFoundation of China (No:81172961).The genus lllicium Line is the only member ofthe family Illiciaceae DC, including about50species around the world,According toFlora of China, about31species have been disjunctively distributed in the southwest, southern and eastern China, and21species grow only in China.Of these plants, thecharacteristically shaped fruit (Anisi Stellati Fructus) of I. verum and the cortex(Illicii Cortex) of I. difengpi are listed in Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2010Edition).According to Dictionary of Chinese material medical (Second Edition) and ChineseMateria Medica, Illicium lanceolatum is known as Mangcao or Hongduhui inChinese, its roots and root bark have been applied as a traditional Chinese medicinewith the action of dispelling cold and relieving pain, and the fruits are highly toxic. There were reported more than50compounds from the l. lanceolatum But, Therewere a few reports of pharmacology research. The early research of llliciumlanceolatum by HepG2.2.15and bacillus subtilis was found that the crude extract hasantibacterial activity, moreover, the crude extract has anti-HBV activity in vitro forthe first time.OBJECTIVE: Based on the leaves and fruits of I.1anceolatum, the chemicalconstituents were studied to detecte the activity compounds of anti-HBV andantibacterial. The experiment can be provided for the discovery of antiviral antibioticcompounds, Moreover it is also very important for the protection and utilization of I.1anceolatum.METHODS: The chemical constituents of the leaves and fruits of I.1anceolatumwere studied with methods of silica Gel column, Sephadex LH-20, MCI,macroporous adsorption resins, moreover the physicochemical properties experimentsand the modern spectrum technology were also applied (UV, IR, HRESI-MS,1H-NMR,13C-NMR,2D-NMR); Crude extracts of several species from Illicium were examined their antibacterial activity by paper disc; We examined their antibacterialactivity of five monoterpenoids compounds by coubling dilution.RESULTS:(1)22compounds were isolated and elucidated from the fruits and leavesof I. lanceolatum, including2new compounds and12known compounds firstisolated from I. lanceolatum. The compounds included8monoterpenes,2sesquiterpenes,1phenylpropanoids,2lignans,5flavones and so on. The structure ofnew compounds (monoterpenes) were named as p-Mentha-1(7),8-dien-2-O-β-D-glucoside (JH-935) and Trans-2,4-dihydroxy-2,4-dimethyl-trans-1-acetic acid-lactone (JH-936).(2) We evaluated antimicrobial activity of the crude extracts of several species fromIllicium against bacillus subtilis. The results showed the ethyl acetate partsn-butylalcohol parts of total extracts from the fruits of I. lanceolatum and I. verum exhibiteda broad antimicrobial activity against bacillus subtilis with the zone of inhibitionmore than11.40mm. But the crude extracts of several species from Illicium did notdisplay any antimicrobial activity against escherichia coli, and5monoterpenoidscompounds did not display any antimicrobial activity against bacillus subtilis andescherichia coli.
