Objective:To compare the mid-to long-term results between unicompartmental knee arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty for the treatment of isolated medial unicompartmental osteoarthritis of knee. Methods:Follow up95patients (95knees) with isolated medial unicompartmental osteoarthritis, stable ACL and less than grade III lateral patellar disease underwent knee arthroplasty by a single surgeon for at least5years. Since1UKA case lost due to death, there were33UKAs and61TKAs. Patients were assessed with validated knee scores. Satisfaction was assessed with a visual analogue scale.Results:1UKA had revision3years after the first surgery due to aseptic loosening. There was no statistical difference in patient functional outcome assessed with KSS score between the two groups in long-term follow-up. UKA group show better results in early-to mid-term follow-up as well as in patients’ satisfaction and perception of knee normality scores. Conclusion:Patients underwent UKA had better early-term functional outcome and similar mid-to long-term functional outcome compared with those underwent TKA. Patients’ satisfaction is better amongst UKA.
