Objective:To compare the mid-term results between unicompartmental knee arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty for the treatment of isolated medial unicompartmental osteoarthritis of knee and make a statistical analysis. Methods:Follow up 55 cases(55 knees)in accordance with the conditions of patients underwent knee arthroplasty due to the knee joint medial compartment osteoarthritis during the period from January 2014 to February 2016.The operative time was used as the starting point of the study and follow up to August 31,2016 or revision, lost, date of death.Group UKA 26 cases(26 knees),group TKA 29 cases(29 knees). The clinical and functional scores of the American Knee Society score(KSS),knee range of motion(ROM),the last follow-up pain score(KSS pain score),patient satisfaction and subjective knee joint normal sensation score(VAS score)of the two groups were compared before and after 6 months,1 year and 2 years after operation. Results:Two groups of patients were satisfied with the curative effect after operation,no serious complications occurred,no aseptic loosening and displacement during the follow-up period,no cases of revision. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the range of motion,KSS clinical score and functional score. The knee ROM,KSS clinical score and functional score of the patients in the two groups 6 months,1 year and 2 year after operation were significantly improved compared with those before operation. The UKA group was better than that of the TKA group, the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05).The degree of postoperative pain relief was significantly improved compared with that of preoperation, the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant(P>0.05).At the end of follow-up,the satisfaction degree of knee joint and subjective sensation score of UKA group was higher than that of TKA group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:UKA and TKA are effective methods for the treatment of medial compartment osteoarthritis of the knee in the correct grasp of the indications. In the postoperative knee range of motion, functional recovery, subjective feeling of satisfaction degree of normal knee joint,UKA mid-term results are better than TKA.The two methods can effectively relieve the pain caused by knee osteoarthritis, but there is no significant difference.
