Objective:To study the relationship and significance of VEGF and MMP-9expressions in breast cancer with patients age, size of tumor, TNM stage, tissue stage and lymph node metasis.Methods:1.The expression of VEGF and MMP-9in56cases of breast cancer tissues and30patients with benign breast disease were detected by immunohistochemistry, to analyze the relationship between VEGF and MMP-9in the development of breast cancer.2. The levels of VEGF and MMP-9mRNA in breast cancer tissues were measured by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).Results:1.Immunostaining in56breast cancers showed mat the positive rate of VEGF was75.0%(42/56), the positive rate of MMP-9was69.6%(39/56). The expression rate of VEGF and MMP-9in breast carcinoma were higher than that in fibroadenoma of breast tissue respectly23.3%(7/30)(P<0.05),20%(6/30)(P<0.05). High expression of VEGF and MMP-9was correlated with TNM stage, pathological grade, and lymph node metastasis. The expression of VEGF and MMP-9were not correlated with the ages of patients and size of tumour.2.The levels of VEGF mRNA were significantly higher in the patients with breast cancer was (0.8127±0.1042) than those in benign breast diseases [(0.3275±0.0384),(P<0.05)]. The levels of MMP-9mRNA were significantly higher in the patients with breast cancer was (0.9142±0.1081) than those in benign breast diseases [(0.3794±0.0428),(P<0.05)].Conclusions:1.The expression rate of VEGF and MMP-9in breast carcinoma was higher than that in fibroadenoma of breast tissue. VEGF and MMP-9was up regulated in breast carcinoma, which indicated that it may play all important role in the genesis and development of breast cancer.2.The high expression of VEGF and MMP-9, alone and in combination, promote the invasion and metastasis of breast cancer.
