ObjectiveTo explore clinical effects of motor aphasia after stroke treated by "Xing Nao Kai Qiao" acupuncture therapy through a randomiaed controlled trial, and also to verify the superiority of "Xing Nao Kai Qiao" in treating motor aphasia after stroke, provide a better method, improve the ability of communication.MethodsSeventy patients who suffered from motor aphasia after stroke have be en selected according to the statistical package of 《Encyclopedia of the Chinese medicine:medical statistics》 (PEMS 3.1). All these patients ar e from Acupuncture Department and Nerve Medical Department in Guangdong P rovince Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medical. They are randomly divide d into two equal working groups:one is the study group, the group of "Xi ng Nao Kai Qiao", the patients in this group will be acupunctured PC-6, D U-26(EX-HN-3 instead after 3 days), SP-6, HT-5, LR-3, KI-3, Shang-Lian-Quan, Pang-Lian-Quan-1, Pang-Lian-Quan-2, EX-HN-12, EX-HN-13 points and lingual by pricking method mainly,assisted with HT-1, LU-5, BL-40, GB-20, GB-12, BL-10. The other group is the control group, which mainly acupuncture DU-15, RN-23,HT-5 points, assisted with LI-15,LI-11,LI-10,SJ-5,LI-4,GB-30,GB-3 4, ST-36, ST-41, BL-60 points. All the points are operated by the reinforcin g and reducing methods accordingly. Two groups are conducted on the basic of routine medicine and recovery therapy.The treatment schedule is 25 minutes each time,5 visits per week, totally 3 weeks for about 12-15 times. Aphasia Battery of Chinese (ABC) will be used as a key indicator to assess the therapeutic effect of speech function, evaluate clinical efficacy according to Nim horizon method. Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination (BDAE) will be used as a secondary indicator. All of these assessments will be evaluated before and after the treatment, and will be conducted by the same evaluator who don’t know patients’s group.Results1. In this RCT study, the gender, age, diagnosis, previous stroke and treatment, speech function and level are equal between two groups.2. Comparison of improving speech function between two groups:After the treatment, there are significant differences between the two groups (P=0.000<0.05), according to Nim horizon method. The score of ABC (633.676 ± 57.698) is higher than the control group (609.219±58.610), P=0.008<0.05. It shows that "Xing Nao Kai Qiao" acupuncture therapy is superior to Routine acupuncture therapy in improving the speech function.3. Comparison of improving all kinds of speech function between two groups: After the treatment, there are significant differences in oral, repeat and naming improvement between the two groups (oral P=0.001<0.05, repeat P=0.032<0.05, naming P=0.014<0.05). There are not differences in auditory comprehension, reading and writing between the two groups (P>0.05)4. Comparison of improving speech function level between two groups:After the treatment, there are significant differences between the two groups (P=0.010<0.05), according to Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination (BDAE). It means that "Xing Nao Kai Qiao" acupuncture therapy is superior to Routine acupuncture therapy in helping improving the speech function level the patients who suffered from motor aphasia after stroke.ConclusionsThe "Xing Nao Kai Qiao" acupuncture therapy works more effective than Routine acupuncture therapy in improving the speech function of the patients who suffered from motor aphasia after stroke, reflected in oral, repeat and naming. And that it is superior to Routine acupuncture therapy in helping improving the speech function level.
