Analysis Of The Causative Pathogenic Fungi And The Constitutional Type Of TCM In Onychomycosis Patients

ObjectiveTo analyze the pathogenic fungi and clinical types of onychomycosis recently. To study the constitution of the constitutional type of TCM in onychomycosis patients in Guangdong Hospital of TCM.Methods84 patients with onychomycosis from outpatient and inpatient department of Dermatology in Guangdong Hospital of TCM was studied. The imformation and the clinical type of onychomycosis patients were recorded. Nail samples were collected for direct microscopic examination and culture. Patients with positive result were asked to form the "the classification and identification of constitutions of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine)". The data were analyzed by software of SPSS17.0.Results84 cases which were positive by culture included in the study.The male: female ratio was 1:2.23 and the mean age was 51.94±1.96 years. The clinical types noted were DLSO(72.6%), TDO (20.9%), SWO(4.8%),PSO(2.4%). Yeast were the most common pathogens isolated in this study, being found in 57 patients (66.3%). Candida Parapsilosis were in the first place and Rolland Cryptococcus neoformans was isolated in this study. Dermatophytes were isolated from 19 patients (22.1%) and Trichophyton rubrum were the most common pathogens in Trichophyton. Nondermatophyte molds were isolated from 11 patients (12.8%). In our study, dermatophytes were the principal cause of this condition in men and yeast were the dominant cause of onychomycosis in women. Dermatophytes were given priority to toenail while yeast were given priority to fingernail. In the constitution of TCM aspect, the constitution of peaceful turned the highest frequency(25%), followned by Yang deficiency constitution(23.8%).ConelusionDistal lateral subungual onychomycosis was the most common clinical presentation in Guangzhou. Yeast were the major pathogens and Candida parapsilosis take the largest proportion. The constitution of peaceful is the major constitution, followned by Yang deficiency in onychomychosis patients.
