Objection:To study therapeutic effect of Jingui Shenqi pill on reproductive dysfunction in male mice exposed to microwave radiationMethods: 70 male BALB/C mice were obtained and divided randomly into 7 groups,every 7 mice were included in each group. Parallel control group: 10 mice were included in this group and microwave radiometer was used in experiment but no radiation or any other treatment involved.Standard radiation groups: 20 mice were exposed to microwave radiation18 days continuously of 1 hour for each day with a 2450 MHz frequency, power density of10 m W/cm2. 10 mice were then given a physiological saline intragastric administration, as the standard radiation control group, while the left were given a Jingui Shenqi pill intragastric administration and as the standard radiation treatment group. Prolonged radiation groups: 20 mice were exposed to microwave radiation 18 days continuously of 4 hours for each day with a 2450 MHz frequency, power density of 10 m W/cm2. The following procedure was conducted the same as step 3 above. Groups were included the prolonged radiation control group the prolonged radiation treatment group, respectively. Enhanced power-density radiation groups: 20 mice were exposed to microwave radiation 18 days continuously of 1hours for each day with a 2450 MHz frequency, power density of 40 m W/cm2. The following procedure was conducted the same as step 4 above. Groups were included the enhanced power-density radiation groups the enhanced power-density radiation treatment group,respectively. Percentage of sperm mobility(PR+NP), progressively sperm mobility(PR), sperm deformity rate and pathological evaluation of testis were observed.Results: Standard microwave radiation would lead the reproductive dysfunction in male BALB/C mice. Enhanced power-density radiation or prolonged radiation would worsen the reproductive dysfunction, especially for the latter. Prolonged radiation could lead PR decrease more manifest, but not for PR+NP and sperm deformity rate. The total weight of testis were not affected in mice of standard radiation groups and prolonged radiation groups, while it decreased in mice of enhanced power-density radiation groups. The number of sperms decreased vigorously in both prolonged radiation groups and enhanced power-density radiation groups, but not affected in the standard radiation groups. Pathological examination of testis was observed normally in mice with Jingui Shenqi pill intragastric administration after standard microwave radiation, and close to normal in mice with Jingui Shenqi pill intragastric administration after either prolonged radiation or enhanced power-density radiation.Conclusions: Jingui Shenqi pill had obvious and remarkable therapeutic effect on most semen parameters, which could promote the PR+NP, decrease the sperm deformity rate and demonstrate reconstructive function in mice exposed to microwave radiation.
