Abstract:Objective To study the effect of Olea europaea L. leaf extracts on antioxidant activity in vivo. Methods The subacute aged model mice were made by back subcutaneous injection of D-galactose every day. Compared with VE as positive control, the mice were given by gavaga three different doses of Olea europaea L leaf extracts,58,116,232mg/kg BW. After a 30-day administration of Olea europaea L. leaf extracts, the content of MDA, activity of SOD in serum, liver and brain and GSH-Px in serum and liver were determined, respectively; What’s more, the liver and brain tissue’s HE staining were made, and its physiology morphological changes were observed. Results The SOD and GSH-Px activities in aged model group were significantly decreased, but MDA was significantly increased as compared to normal mice (P<0.05). While in the aged mice treated with Olea europaea L. leaf extracts, the activity of SOD and GSH-Px were significantly increased and the content of MDA significantly decreased as compared to aged mice (P<0.05). Olea europaea L leaf extracts can improve the cell shape and the edema situation of D-gal induced aging mice’s liver cells, brain cortex and hippocampal neurons signicantly. Conclusion Olea europaea L. leaf extracts has good antioxidant activity.
