BackgoundRecurrent respiratory tract infections (Recurrent Respiratory Tract Infection, RRTI referred to as "recurrent infections") refers to the number of frequent upper and lower respiratory tract infections beyond the normal range in less than 1 year. RRTI is common clinical disease in children, occur in children 2-6 years old, in mainland China, the incidence rate is close to 20%, in recent years, the incidence has increased year after year. RRTI is lingering diseases which has longer duration and occurs recurrently. It seriously impacts children’s learning and health, but also brings the families of children a great deal of psychological pressure and economic burden. RRTI often associated with genetic factors, low immunity, lacking of vitamins and minerals, improper feeding and care, living conditions and other factors. If not handled properly, RRTI can lead to asthma, myocarditis, nephritis and other diseases. Therefore RRTI research is extremely important.ObjectivesThe primacy purpose of this study was to observe the effect of pediatric massage therapy with conventional therapy treating RRTI. According this research to provide the theoretical basis for its use in clinical practice. And offer a new clinical massage therapy which is effective and reliable, innovative and with TCM characteristics for the treatment of RRTI.MethodsAccordance with the diagnostic criteria, inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria of the test cases, we chose 70 RRTI patients as subjects in strict, which including the outpatient in massage department and pediatrics of Guangdong provincial Hospital of TCM, from October,2013 to December,2014. We devided the patients to two groups:treatment group, control group in randomized control method. The treatment group has 35 cases and the control group has 35 cases. We adjust pediatric massage therapy with conventional therapy in the treatment group. The control group treated patients by conventional therapy only. The course of treatment is four weeks and the children are massaged twice a week. After the end of treatment we followed up for 6 months. Observed the times、duration and efficacy of the children in two groups respectively in recent (after the end of treatment within 3 months) and in long term (4-6 months after the end of treatment). We used statistical software SPSS19.0 to statistical analysis of the data. Analysis the clinical efficacy of pediatric massage therapy with conventional therapy treating RRTI.Results(1) Within 3 months after the treatment, Both groups reduced the times of recurrent infection, and the differentiation was insignificant(P>0.05). During the 4th to 6th months after the treatment, the treatment group reduced the times of recurrent infection more significantly than the controlled group (P< 0.05)(2) Within 3 months after the treatment, Both groups shortened the decade of recurrent infection, and the differentiation was insignificant(P>0.05). During the 4th to 6th months after the treatment, the treatment group shortened the decade of recurrent infection more significantly than the controlled group (P< 0.05)(3) Within 3 months after the treatment, the total effective rate of the treatment group (81.82%) was significantly higher than the effective rate of controlled group(70.00%) (P>0.05). During the 4th to 6th months after the treatment, the total effective rate of the treatment group (81.82%) was also significantly higher than the effective rate of controlled group(60.00%)(P <0.05)(4) Safety observation:Throughout the study, the controlled group,1 patient had vomited after having medicine and no other discomfort, aftet stopping having the medicine, the symptom disappeared.Children with physical reasons have different response to drugs, there will be a slight vomiting and other adverse reactions, others did not appear related adverse reactions.ConclusionPediatric massage therapy with conventional therapy has a better efficacy in treating recurrent respiratory tract infection during the 4th to 6th months after the treatment. This method worth the further promotion of clinical, because it provide a new kind of Clinical evidence and ideas in RRTI treatment.
