Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of treating the phlegm stagnation type polycystic ovarian syndrome with moxibustion combined with decoction. Methods:The study is designed to the same period in randomized controlled trails. Research began from Octobers 2013 to May 2014; patients are from Daguan clinic of TCM.60 patients met the inclusion criteria of Phlegm Stagnation Type polycystic ovarian syndrome were randomly divided into treatment group (30 cases) and control group (30 cases). Both groups received the herb for 23 days per month. The decoctions are decided basically from the Cangfu Daotan decoction, but changed two to three herbs according to 3 due to the patient’s menstrual cycle, while the treatment group received moxibustion on two sets of acupoints five times a week, menstruation suspended. A menstrual cycle (one month for those amenorrhea cases) is a course of treatment, continuous treatment of 3 courses. Each patient’s clinical symptoms, menstrual cycle, body mass index (BMI) as long as basal body temperature (BBT) are assessed and evaluated until three months after the treatments. Then to analyze all data with SPSS17.0 statistical software package, statistically compare two groups’results. Results:Baseline data of two groups were tested not statistically significantly comparable (P>0.05). After the courses six patients are pregnant, two on the control group and four on the other one. Three months after the courses finished, totally twenty four patients’BBT chart presented three times of continuous double phase, as forty patients recuperate normal menstrual cycle. And total scores of symptoms for both groups are significantly lower than those before treatment (P<0.05), while hirsute scores show no significant change (P>0.05). But the BBT chart, menstrual disorder, BMI and the total scores improved more significantly (P<0.05) for the treatment group. Conclusions:The Cangfu Daotan decoction is a effective method to treat polycystic ovary syndrome of the Phlegm stagnation type, with moxibutstion on acupoints weekly, symptoms such as irregular menstruation, one-phase BBT as well as BMI scores are improved better.
