| TCM journals on the Republic of China before 1949AD not only have a wealth of medical value and literature value, but also carrying the history of the development of TCM. But studies are rare on that area. Based on a study of literature about the area and the use of Bibliometric method, this article discussed the development features of TCM journals of the Republic of China before 1949AD.1.This article had acomprehensive survey on the libraries, databases and publications,322 kinds TCM journals on the Republic of China before 1949AD were confirmedfinally. This article collected the founder or editor, the beginning time,the ending time, the publishing cycle, the publishing place, the purpose and other information of these journals, and built a database of TCM journals on the Republic of China before 1949AD.2.According to the statistic analysis on the annual quantities of journals, location of the journals, the research found that the journal development on that time can be divided into four periods. â‘ Period Late-Qing, this period was from 1897 to 1911,we called it A Embryonic-Period. In this time 8 kinds of TCM journals were published. â‘¡ From 1912 to 1927,is A Exploration-Development-Period, in this time, 40 kinds of TCM journals were published, most of theirs purposes were rejuvenation of the Chinese national medicine, others werecalling to combine Chinese and Western medicine. â‘¢ From 1928 to 1937, that is A Rapid-Development-Period,164 kinds journals were Appeared, the intention of 90 kinds of them can be obtain, more than 60 kinds of them were to promote the development of TCM, more than 30 kinds of them were to combine Chinese and Western medicine. â‘£ From 1938 to 1949, affected by Anti-Japanese War, the number of journals reduced gradually. After the war, the number raised significantly, we called it an Unstable-Development-Period.The main founders of TCM journals were TCM groups. A few of the TCM groups founded most of TCM journals, most of TCM groups founded 1 TCM journal only. After 1915, many provinces set up TCM colleges.TCM colleges set up more and more TCM journals. Individuals also founded a lager of TCM journals, they were TCM celebrities, and they were also active in the articles published.Zhejiang and Shanghai were the source location of TCM journals, and TCM journals spread to Chinese mainland gradually.The TCM journalswere widely distributed in 25 provinces and municipalities. Also,3foreign countries established TCM journals. But the distribution was uneven, most of journals were founded in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Beijing and Guangdong. Anti-Japanese War made TCM journals migrate to the western region of China.3.Throughout comparing Chinese to Western medicine journals, the research founds thatthe appear of Western medicine journals was earlier than TCM journals in that time of China. Their development were matching, can be divided into four periods. In that time,main founders of journals were medical groups and medical colleges,but Western medicine journals, especially health journals, were mainly supported by the Government. Part of the Western medicine journals published even until nowadays, besides the TCM journal "Journal of TCM History"also published till today (It was published by a Western medical group). TCM journals founded by Chinese medicine groups which still published today are very rare. Zhejiang and Shanghai were the source location of TCM journals, while most Western medicine journals were founded in Shanghai and Guangdong earlier. This was uneven distribution of TCM journals and Western medicine journals. During the Anti-Japanese War, TCM journals and Western medicine journals migrated to the western region of China.4. This article selected"Shaoxing medical report", "Shaoxing medical monthly report", "there-there medical report", "TCM report" and "medicine report", these journals were founded in different places and had a greater impact at that time. This article had a brief analysis on these journals, so that we could have a better understanding to the TCM journals on the Republic of China before 1949AD. |
