Objective: To investgate the association between interleukin-6(IL-6) and the subclasses of high density lipoprotein(HDL)in metabolic syndrome(MS) patients.Method: Plasma concentrations of IL-6 was assayed in 164 metabolic syndrome(MS) and 105 healthy subjects by methods of ELISA Kits, the concentrations of lipids and apolipoproteins in plasma were detected by automated biochemical analyzer, the subclasses of HDL were determined by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis conjunction with immunodetection method. Results: 1. Compared with the control, the levels of fasting plasma glucose(FPG), total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C), apolipoprotein B100(apo B100), IL-6, systolic blood pressure(SBP), body mass index(BMI), waist-hip ratio(WHR), preβ1-HDL, HDL3 b, LDL-C/HDL-C and apo AI/B100 were increased in the MS patients(P<0.05). Meanwhile, apo AI, HDL-C, preβ2-HDL, preβ2-HDL, HDL2 a, HDL2 b were decreased in the MS patients(P<0.01).2. The correlation analysis showed that IL-6 was positively correlated with the plasma glucose, triglyceride and HDL3b; and negatively correlated with the levels of HDL-C, apo AI, preβ2-HDL, HDL2 a and HDL2 b. 3. With the increasing of IL-6 level, the contents of HDL2 a and HDL2 b were decreased in the MS patients(P<0.05), while preβ1-HDL, HDL3 c and HDL3 b were increased(P<0.05). 4. With the increasing of IL-6 level, the contents of TC,TG, LDL-C, apo B100 and LDL-C/HDL-C were increased in the MS(P<0.05), while HDL-C and apo AI/B100 were decreased(P<0.05). 5. With the increasing of IL-6 level, the contents of HDL2 a and HDL2 b were decreased in the MS patients(P<0.05), while preβ1-HDL, HDL3 c and HDL3 b were increased(P<0.05).Conclusion: With the increased of plasma IL-6 level, HDL subclass distribute abnormal particles in the MS subjects, so elevated concentrations of plasma IL-6 related to maturation metabolism of HDL. Plasma IL-6 concentration was positively correlated with small particles preβ1-HDL, and it was negatively correlated with large particles HDL2 b and HDL2 a.
