With economic development, the development of wood furniture manufacturingindustry is also very fast. However, most China’s wood furniture manufacturingcompany are small and medium-sized enterprises with low level of productiontechnology. Both the occupational health management and occupational protectiveequipments are inadequate. The employees’ health situation is worrying for thoseworkplaces exist a variety of occupational hazard factors, such as wood dust, formaldehyde, benzene, vibration, noise, etc.The purpose of this research is to investigate the prevention and control ofoccupational disease hazards of woodiness furniture manufacturing industry, studythe health effects of formaldehyde which exists in the process of furnituremanufacturing and preliminary form protective countermeasures.20wood furnituremanufacturing companies in Shandong Province were selected. We obtainedthe information through questionnaires survey, information checking, discussion andfield testing. The data of formaldehyde exposure levels of exposure workers wasobtained by using the occupational health detection technology. The workers’ healthdata was obtained by occupational hygiene investigation and occupational healthexamination. An cytokinesis block micro nuclear test was conducted to explore f cellgenetic toxic effect of formaldehyde levels.Through the study, we found that the formaldehyde concentration in the air of woodfactories was significantly higher than that in the control group factories and woodfactory workers’ urinary formic acid concentration was significantly higher than thatof the control factory workers. Formic acid content in urine can be used as anindicator of wooden furniture manufacturing workers exposed to formaldehyde andcan reflect situation of workers’ exposure to formaldehyde and its influence on thebody. The incidence of micronucleus frequency in peripheral blood lymphocytes issignificantly higher in the formaldehyde exposure group than that in the control groupas well as a corresponding increasecan be found. Therefor, the incidence ofmicronucleus frequency in peripheral blood lymphocytes can be considered as anearly genetic indicators of formaldehyde injury.Through the survey, we also found the occupational disease prevention situation ofwood furniture manufacturing enterprises is not optimistic for incomplete institutionsof occupational health management and records management, inadequate investmentin occupational disease prevention funding, serious exceeding of formaldehyde andother toxic substances, missing items of health care system. The government shouldstrengthen the supervision to improve the enterprises’ awareness.Based on the aboveanalysis, we proposed the initial protection countermeasures for formaldehyde hazardin wood furniture manufacturing companies.
