Purpose Contrasted the survival rate between the surgical treatment group and the non-surgical treatment group of the non-small cell lung cancer with solitary brain metastasis by the application of meta-analysis methods, and made a systematic evaluation of the role of the surgical therapy. Methods The search strategy included PUBMED, EMBASE, WanFang Database, China National Knowledge Internet Web, Chinese Biomedical Database. The comparative literatures about surgical treatment and non-surgical treatment of the non-small cell lung cancer with solitary brain metastasis patients were included. The limited time was from the moment when the database was building to December2013. The quality of the literatures were rated by using the Jadad scoring after the literatures were screened and extracted by two reviewers independently. Meta-analysis was performed with RevMan5.2, which was provided by the Cochrane Collaboration software. Results Four studies were included, the number of the total event were246. There were three studies which provided the information of1-year overall survival rate, three studies provided the information of5-years overall survival rate. The results of meta-analysis:there were no heterogeneity between all studies. In comparison with the non-surgical treatment group, the1-year survival rate of the surgical treatment group was lower [RR=0.73,95%CI (0.51,1.06), P=0.0.10] and the5-years survival rate was higher [RR=0.79,95%CI(0.29,2.18) P=0.0.65], but there was no statistically significant difference. Conclusions By the comparation of the1-year and5-year survival rate of the non-small lung cancer with solitary brain metastasis patients, there was no evidence to supported the Efficacy of surgical therapy was better than the non-surgical therapy. We need more evidence-based medicine to demonstrate the best treatment strategy.
