| China is one of the four great ancient civilizations, and Chinese culture has a long history of thousands of years, where ancestral sages have left a large number of classics for the later generations inheriting and carrying forward, and Huangdi Neijing is one of them. Under the background of global cultural integration, translation is necessary to spread Chinese culture to the world.Trope is commonly seen in Huangdi Neijing. It is a rhetorical device used to explain one thing by other things and is often seen in both Chinese and foreign languages. The history of using trope can be traced back to Analogism in ancient Chinese philosophy, emphasizing the reflection between noumena and metaphorical objects, and is closely related to cognition.Frame Theory belongs to cognitive linguistics, which has three constituent elements, attribute-values, structural invariants and constraints. It contains four basic attributes which are hierarchy, prototype effect, dynamics and cultural differences. Therefore, the frame is composed of numerous conditional components with certain structures, and frames in different languages and cultures have their own cultural specificity. So the similarities and differences of components and structures between different languages can be applied to the translation work.The first thirty chapters of Huangdi Neijing and the corresponding sections of three English versions were selected as study objects. Elements of tropes were classified, all fropes in the first thirty chapters of Huangdi Neijing were searched out through Ultra Edit and ParaConc and three most common subtypes, namely simile, metaphor and metonymy were further decided. A comparative analysis was conducted from the perspective of Frame Theory. Equivalent shift, componential adjustment and structural adjustment and other strategies were then summarized in the hope of contributing to the translation of Huangdi Neijing and even more TCM classics. |
