Research objective: The contents and viewpoints on Camellia sinensis in ancient herbal books and other related works have been systematically collected in order to clarify the property and effect of tea and investigate the clinical application and compatibility rules, as well as providing a reliable theoretical basis.Research methods: By traditional literature methods and modern statistical methods, the relevant literature on tea properties and effects was collected and the nature, flavor, channel tropism and clinical effects of tea were objectively analyzed. The database of tea prescriptions was established according to Dictionary of Prescriptions in order to study the clinical application and compatibility rules of tea prescriptions and explore the characteristics of clinical application.Research results: Fifty books on Camellia sinensis were mentioned in this research. This research shows that Camellia sinensis is cool in nature, bitter, pungent and sweet in flavor. It belongs to six meridians including the liver meridian, the pericardium meridian, the heart meridian, the lung meridian, the spleen meridian, the kidney meridian, the stomach meridian, with the functions of downloading Qi and promoting digestion, improving mentality and vision, dispelling and cleaning phlegm, relieving restlessness and thirst, inducing diuresis for treating strangurtia, clearing away heat and toxic material, inducing perspiration and removing heat. By 1468 tea prescriptions, it shows that Camellia sinensis is usually complicated with releasing the exterior medicines, medicines with the pungent flavor, heat-clearing and fire-purging medicines, removing-phlegm and relieving-cough medicines and channel-warming and cold-expelling medicines and applied in clearing away heat and toxic material prescriptions, dispelling wind and relieving pain prescriptions, relieving exterior and dispelling sweat prescriptions and promoting digestion and downloading Qi prescriptions in the treatment of symptoms of sore furuncle, diarrhea, headache and body pain, influenza and epidemic and dyspeptic abdominal distention.Research conclusion: This research clarifies the properties and effects of Camellia sinensis by analyzing the ancient medicine books, which has laid the theoretical foundation for clinical application. It also investigates the clinical application range and compatibility rules of Camellia sinensis, which provides the reference for clinical application.
