On the basis of previous investigation, advanced Phytochemical investigation on the Flos Hosta plantaginea was carried out to isolate and enrich the important chemical constituents for their activity research in vitro,illustrating the effective substance of this medicine and providing reliable and scientific basis for quality control, further development and utilization of this Mongolian Medicine. Methods Solvent method was employed to extract and partition. Chemical constituents were isolated and purified by chromatographic method(silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, RP-18, macroporous resin HP-20, and so on). The structures of the compounds were elucidated on the basis of physio-chemical identification and spectral analysis(MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT, 1H-1H COSY, HSQC, HMBC, and so on). Results Eleven compounds were isolated from Flos Hosta plantaginea and all of them were identified as kaempferol 3-O-β-D- glucopyranoside(1), para hydroxybenzoic acid(2a) Hydroxyphenyl propionate(2b)(2),kaempferol-7-O-β-D-glucoside(3), kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside(4), kaempferol 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl(1'2) –β-D- glucopyranoside(5), kaempferol 3-O-{β-D-glucopyranosyl(1'3) [α-L-rhamnopyranosy-(1'6)]–β-Dglucopyranoside}(6),Kaempfero-3,7-di-O-β–D-glucopyranoside(7),(25R)-2α,3β,26β-trihydro xy-furostane-20(22)-enolide-3-O-{O-β-D-glucopyranosy(1'2)-O-[O-α-L-rhamnopyranosy-(1'4)-β-D-xylopyranosy(1'3)]-O-β-D-glucopyranosy-(1'4)-β-D-galactopyranosy }-26-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(8),(25R)-22-O-methyl-2α,3β,22ξ,26β-trihydroxy-furostane-3-O-{O-β-D-glucopyranosy(1'2)-O-[O-α-L-rhamnopyranosy-(1'4)-β-D-xylopyranosy(1'3)]-O-β-D-g lucopyranosy-(1'4)-β-D-galactopyranosy }-26-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(9),7-methoxyl-kaem pferol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1'2)-β-D-glucopyranoside(10),(24S,25S)-5α-spirostan-2α,3β,24-triol-3-O-{O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1'2)-O-[β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1'3)]-O-β-D-glucopyran osyl-(1'4)-β-D-galactopyranoside}(11). Conclusions Compound 6,9,10,11 are new compounds, and compound1,2(2a,2b),7 are isolated from the genus Hosta for the first time.
