| Background: Acne vulgaris is a chronicle inflammatory cutaneous condition occurring to pilosebaceous unit and manifested by multifarious skin damages like acnes on face, chest or back, inflammatory papules, pustules,nodules, etc., which mostly affects adolescents. It’s also characterized by long-lasting symptoms, high reoccurrence rate and ever-changing severity. Skin damages usually leave endurable pigmentary macula, hollowed spots or hypertrophic scars, and in some extreme cases, cheloids. The resulting appearance can cause mental depression which hampers study, career and social relations, thus the therapy of acne is gaining increasing attentions.Pathogenic mechanism of acne is complex, pilosebaceous unit duct keratinization disorder, hypersteatosis, inflammatory reactions induced by propionibacteria colonization and androgen hypersecretion are major pathogenic factors. Regulatory and preventive interventions targeting on every contributory factors are usually effective in curing and preventing acne. Fuqing antimicrobial dressings is consisted of antimicrobial peptides and hyaluronic acid. Antimicrobial peptides(AMPs), originally referred to as antibacterial peptides, are a family of alkaline antimicrobial low molecular weight peptides,the molecular weights of which are around 4000 Da. The peptides are featured by thermostability, broad antimicrobial spectrum, low minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC), low drug resistance rate and good inhibitory efficacy against fungi, gram-negative bacteria and gram-positive bacteria. The peptides are as well antivirus and antiprotozoal, they can even suppress tumor cells without killing normal cells, thus AMP is one of the most prominent peptide antibiotics now. Hyaluronic acid(HA) is a moistening, antimicrobial,anti-inflammatory and tissue repairing substance that widely distributed in all organs and tissues of human.Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of drug combination of Fuqing antimicrobial dressings and adapalene gel in curing skin damages induced byacne.Methods: A total of 80 patients attended for acne vulgaris to the Department of Dermatology in our hospital were included(Phillsbury ranking I~II). All subjects were assigned to control group and test group at random.The test group patients were given drug combination of Fuqing antimicrobial dressings and adapalene gel, the control group patients were given adapalene gel only. The therapeutic effects were evaluated after 7, 14 and 28 days’ administration.Results: The results indicated that after 14 days’ administration, the total response rates of the test group and the control group were 57.5% and 32.5%;whereas the response rates were 87.5% and 52.5% at the 28 th day of therapy.The differences were statistically significant. The total counts of skin damages,inflammatory skin damages and non-inflammatory skin damages were compared between both groups, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Difference of inflammatory skin damage counts between the groups at the 7th day were statistically significant, and rashes were significantly alleviated comparing to the initial day of the therapy.Conclusion:(1) Fuqing antimicrobial dressings combined with adapalene gel are effective in curing skin damages of acne patients.(2) Fuqing antimicrobial dressings are applicable and worth being promoted in clinical practices for the efficacy and safety in curing acne vulgaris. Side effect was barely seen during the therapy. |
