Objective:To investigate the prevalence and the significance of anticardiolipin antibodies (aCL) and anti-β2 glycoprotein 1 (β2GP1) antibodies in patients with primary Sjogren’s syndrome (pSS) and discuss the relationship between them with pSS system damage. Methods:Anticardiolipin and anti-β2 glycoprotein 1 antibodies level were determined in 100 patients with pSS,55 healthy individuals by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).Clinical and serologic manifestations of patients with pSS were tested and recorded. Results:ACL antibodies were found in 31 (31%) pSS patients (aCL-IgG in 17 patients, aCL-IgM in 10 patients, aCL-IgA in 4 patients). Anti-(32 glycoprotein 1 antibodies antibodies were found in 33 (33%) pSS patients (β2GP1-IgG in 16 patients, β2GP1-IgM in 12 patients, β2GP1-IgA in 5 patients). There was no significant difference in aspects of gender distribution, age of onset, disease duration between two groups (P>0.05). The level of aCL and anti-β2GP1 antibodies were significantly higher in pSS patients than those in healty (P< 0.05). There was no significant difference in aCL positive rate and anti-β2GP1 positive rate (P>0.05). There was a significant and positive correlation between anti-β2GP1 and aCL antibodies (IgG, IgM) (r=0.611,0.533, P<0.05). Patients with positive ACL and anti-β2GP1 presented a higher prevalence of cutaneous vasculitis, autoimmune disease, positive ANA and hyer-gammaglobulinemia (P< 0.05) and anti-β2GP1 positive patients with arthritis were more frequent than the negative patients (P< 0.05).Conclusions:The level of aCL and anti-β2GP1 antibodies were significantly higher in pSS patients and may have participated in the pSS system damage, testing the above indicators help predict disease process.
