Background and aimsrRib fractures can cause significant problems in trauma patients. The most common we met is that rib fractures can cause significant problems in trauma patients include dysfunctions with respiration caused by intolerable pains. To prevent pulmonary complications and decrease the morbidity and mortality rates of patients with multiple rib fractures, currently there is a trend to provide patients with multiple rib fractures surgical management. However, whether taking the surgical fixation to deal with multiple rib fractures (except flail chest formed)is still remained to come to an agreement. Our research is aimed to discuss the best solution to deal with multiple rib fractures via comparing some results of two different methods treating multiple rib fractures:one is a non-surgical method of pressure dressing, strapping and traction and the other is surgical fixation.Material and Methods:40 patients with multiple rib fractures were adopted from January,2014 to November,2015 and they were divided into two groups.20 cases of the conservative treatment were recorded as control group and the other 20 cases of surgical fixation were recorded as observation group. Then compared the results of postoperative pain score, degree of satisfaction for chest deformity.lung function, ambulation time, length of stay in hospital, the blood gas. hospital charge after operative and the complication. Measurement data use x±S to express;the comparison between groups can use t test;the count data groups can use X2 test and;P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS for windows Version 20.0.Results:Through a comparison,Significance was found between the two groups when referred to average pain score on patients (3.94±2.62VS6.16±1.37) (p<0.05), degree of satisfaction for chest deformity (P<0.05), lung function of three months later (P<0.05),the average ambulation time (3.70±0.88DVS6.38±1.06D) (P<0.05) and the average length of hospital stay (15.35±2.50D vs.11.25 ±2.51D) (P<0.05) as well as the hospitalization complication which meant that the results of the operating group were better than the opposite one.the blood gas after treatment between two groups were found significantly different(P<0.05), However, the medical expenses of the operative patients were found significantly higher than the control ones(P<0.01).No significant difference in the two groups of patients with hemopneumothorax when discharged.Conclusion:1.Pain feelings the surgical patients experienced were significantly lower than the conservative group,2.The patients satisfaction rate of chest wall deformity correction by surgery was higher than that of patients with conservative treatment,3.Compared to the conservative treatment, the patients after surgery can leave bed earlier.4.The cost of treatment in surgical stabilization rib fractures(SSRF)is more than nonoperatively(NON-OP) group.5.After treatment. The results of the pulmonary functions tested in three months after management indicated that the patients lung function in the surgical group was significantly better than the patients in the conservatively treated group.6.Compared with conservatively treatment, the patients choosing SSRF may discharge earlier. Compared with conservatively treatment, surgical fixation is more adorable for patients.
