ObjectiveTo investigate the etiology, clinical features, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of renal squamous cell carcinoma.Methods11 cases with renal squamous cell carcinoma treated in our hospital from January 2008 to October 2015 were analysed retrospectively, and 10 of the cases were followed up. COX regression model was used to analyze the risk factors of renal squamous cell carcinoma. The median survival time and survival rate between different operation mode, postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy, degree of tumor differentiation, tumor T stage, tumor N stage were calculated, and the results were analysed by Kaplan Meier method and Long-rank rank sum test.ResultsIn these cases, there were 7 males and 4 females, aged 46-89 years, and the average age was 62 years,4 cases had gross hematuria symptoms,5 cases with symptom of lower back pain and 3 patients had recurrent fever.3 cases had a history of stone,6 cases had hydronephrosis or empyema. According to the single factor analysis of COX regression model, the factors influencing the prognosis of renal squamous cell carcinoma were the degree of tumor differentiation (P=0.04), the T staging (P=0.035), and postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy (P=0.035). The degree of tumor differentiation, T stage and N stage were the reliable indexes for evaluating the survival time of the patients with renal squamous cell carcinoma.ConclusionRenal squamous cell carcinoma is rare, long history of stones and hydronephrosis and pyonephrosis may be the incentives of the renal squamous cell carcinoma. Radical nephrectomy is the preferred treatment for this disease. The degree of tumor differentiation and tumor T stage, postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy are important factors influencing the prognosis. The survival time of T1-T2 stage patients was significantly higher than that of patients with T3-T4 stage, The survival time of NO stage patients was significantly higher than that of patients with N1 stage. The survival time of patients with well-differentiated tumors was significantly higher than that of patients with moderately to poorly differentiation.
