ObjectiveTo research the curative effect of traditional medicine and the treatment of TCM combined with western medicine, the prognostic factors and the suitable mode treatment, trough of large sample retrospective study of elderly patients with stage IV non-small-cell-lung-cancer(NSCLC) treated by Traditional Chinese Medicine.Patients and MethodFirstly, the 97 elderly patients, selected trough the patients treated in the first affiliated hospital of guangzhou university of TCM with non-small-cell-cancer in stage of four were enrolled in our study. Secondly, they were divided into two groups trough the different methods of treatment, which were the groups of the Traditional Chinese Medicine group(group Ⅰ) and the group of combing of Chinese Medicine and western medicine(group Ⅱ).Then, we statistics the median overall survival, survival rates, the median time to progression, bone marrow suppression, and the per length of time in hospital, and hospitalization number, and so on.ResultsOverall survival:the group Ⅱ was 15.0±0.4 months combined with 10.0 ±0.9 months of the group Ⅰ;survival rates:the group 1,0.5,1,2 year survival rate was 89.1%、73.4%、26.6%、14.1% combined with 69.7%、30.3%、 10.2%、6.8% of the group Ⅰ.Time to progression:the group Ⅱ was 8.0±1.6 months combined with 6.0 ±0.4 of the group Ⅰ;the rate of without progression:the group Ⅱ of 0.5 year of without progression was 50.9% combined with 38.2% of the group Ⅰ;the group Ⅱ of 1 year of without progression was 12.7% combined with 9.4% of the group Ⅰ. There was no statistical significance in there differences.Time in hospital:the group Ⅱ was 89.4±5.4 days combined with 54.0 ±4.8 of the group Ⅰ.It had statistical significance in there differencesPer number in hospital:the group Ⅱ was 8.9±0.6 combined with 5.1± 0.4of the group Ⅰ.It had statistical significance in there differencesThere were no serious adverse medical events occured in our study. The incidence of bone marrow suppression of the group Ⅱ((belong the white blood cells, platelet, neutrophils) were 32.8%、28.1%、17.2%、42.2, compare with 12.1%、9.1%、3.0%、21.2% of the group Ⅰ. And it showed the difference had statistical significant.11 possible survival factors were selected into the Cox regression analysis. And it showed that the treatment of traditional Chinese medicine combination of western medicine, the accepting Chinese Medicine in two months, the initial KPS score, smoking index exceeded 400, brain metastases were the the real factors of affecting survival.ConclusionsThe treatment of traditional Chinese medicine combination of western medicine, the accepting Chinese Medicine in two months, the targeted therapy, the initial KPS score, smoking history, brain metastases were the the real factors of affecting survival. It showed that the treatment of TCM had higher economic effect, which had the lower average per capital hospitalization time and the average per capital hospitalization number. Our study showed that the treatment of TCM had lower bone barrow suppression than the Treatment of TCM combined with western medicine. It showed that the treatment of traditional Chinese medicine combination of western medicine, the accepting Chinese Medicine in two months, the initial KPS score, smoking index exceeded 400, brain metastases were the the real factors of affecting survival.
