Objective:This is a retrospective study to investigate the patients'survival time in late stage of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) and evaluate the life expectancy among them. Secondly, to compare the differences of treatment effective between Western Medicine with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) and Western Medicine with Xiaojiyin. Methods:This study is a retrospective case control study. We collected 78 cases which met including criteria. First we made a retrospective information collecting form mainly recorded the personal information of the patients, tumor status and time scale. The personal information including their age, gender, smoking status, diagnosed as late stage NSCLC and the treatment start time);tumor status(tumor location, pathology and stage, PS scale);treatment situation(regimen radiotherapy, chemotherapy and Xiaojiyin. Time(first admission time, death time, follow up time, and calculated exactly survival time). Then strictly follow the including criteria and excluding criteria recruited the objects from January 1,2000 to December 31,2007. The information all typed in SPSS 17.0 for data sort out and analysis. We used descriptive statistical analysis, chi-square test, Wilcox test, Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression.Results:1.There were 78 eligible cases from January 1,2002 to December 31,2007.49 cases in combination treatment of Western Medicine and Xiaojiyin and 29 cases in treatment group of the combination treatment with Western Medicine and TCM group. Last follow-up time was November 30,2009. The proportion of survival time less than 6 months in the group of Western Medicine and Xiaojiyin was 28.6% lower than Western Medicine and TCM group 44.8%. However the survival time longer than 12 months in Western Medicine and TCM group 18.4% was lower than Western Medicine and Xiaojiyin group 6.9% and the median survival time in Western Medicine and Xiaojiyin group(66.0 weeks=15.2 months) was also longer than Western Medicine and TCM group(51.6 weeks=11.9 months). There were no significant statistical differences in these two groups. (P>0.05)2.When analysed the prognostic factors of NSCLC, the result of coefficient model showed that there were statistical significant differences in the regression systems of regression equations between Western Medicine with TCM group and Western Medicine with Xiaojiyin group (P<0.05). The result showed that PS maybe the risk factor OR=6.43 (95%CI:1.48—27.90) consistent with previous studies. Conclusion:The average survival time in Western Medicine with Xiaojiyin group was much longer showed that this treatment regimen would be more effective. But there were limited cases in this study, it need to get more cases and conduct prospective study in the future.
