Objective To analysis and discuss the relationship between the plasma cystatin-C level and carotid atherosclerotic plaque in patients with acute cerebral infarction. Meanwhile, compared the relationship between plasma cystatin-C level and carotid artery intimal thickening.Materials and methods We selected 103 cases of acute cerebral infarction patients from the Department of Neurology in Qing Hai Provincical Peoples ′Hospital during the January 2015 and January 2016. All of the relevant clinical data was collected from the inpatient department. The plasma cystatin-C of the patients was tested by professional clinical laboratory. According to the assessment and the results of the carotid artery ultrasonography, the patients were grouped into non-plaque, stable plaque and unstable plaque by the stablility of the carotid plaque, then the relationship was analysed and discussed between the serum cystatin-C level and carotid atherosclerotic plaque in patient with acute cerebral infarction, also, the correlation was compared between the plasma cystatin-C and carotid intima media thickness of the patients.Results(1)The serum cystatin-C level was different in the unstable plaque group, the stable plaque group and the non-plaque group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05); The plasma Cys-C level of the unstable plaque group was higher than the stable group and the non-plaque group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05);(2)Multiple Logistic regression analysis, except for the age, serum lipid and C reacting protein, plasma Cys-C level was also the independent risk factor for the stablity of carotid plaques in acute cerebral infarction(OR=8.60,95%CI:0.51~14.48,P=0.014);(3)Pearson correlation analysis showed that, plasma Cys-C level had weak positive correlation with carotid artery intimal thickening(r=0.382,P<0.05).Conclusions The plasma Cys-C may participate in the formation and stablity of carotid plaques in acute cerebral infarction; Ascending of the plasma Cys-C level may be associated with the stability of the plaque; plasma Cys-C level had weak positive correlation with carotid artery intimal thickening. So they may indicates that the plasma Cys-C is of significance for the formation and stablity of carotid plaques in acute cerebral infarction.
