Objective:To discuss the clinical features and summarize the management of upper gastrointestinal tract foreign objects, in order to provide reference to clinical diagnosis and management.Methods:Patients treated in our hospital due to upper gastrointestinal tract foreign objects from January 2010 to June 2015 were reviewed, in order to discuss the clinical features and summarize the management of the common upper gastrointestinal tract foreign objects in Taiyuan and surrounding regions. Data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0software, the chi-square was used for count data. Statistical significance was determined by a P-value of less than 0.05.Results:1.675 foreign objects were found in 701 patients. The foreign objects were mainly food-derived, and jujube pits were most common(80%, χ~2=244.56,P<0.05).2.Esophagus was the most common site of incarceration(90.8%, χ~2=448.81,P<0.05), especially the upper segment of esophagus(85.8%, χ~2=483.56,P<0.05).3. Combined upper gastrointestinal tract diseases were mainly esophagus cancerand esophageal stenosis(64.5%).4. Allis clamp and mesh basket were mostly used auxiliary instruments in treatment of upper gastrointestinal tract foreign objects, and Zebra guide wire were mostly used auxiliary instruments in the treatment of gastrolithiasis lithotripsy.5.Gastroscope showed high success rate in treatment of upper gastrointestinal tract foreign objects(nearly 100%), and no severe complication related to operation occurred.Conclusion:1. Jujube pits are most commonly observed upper gastrointestinal tract foreign objects in patients from Taiyuan and its surrounding regions.2. Upper gastrointestinal tract foreign object incarceration is a common emergency in clinical practice, and most patients need endoscopic treatment.3. Endoscope is a safe and effective method in treatment of upper gastrointestinal tract foreign objects.
