Procrastination is a prevalence psychological phenomenon, which means people postpone starting the planned tasks or completing the tasks on time though people can predict the subsequent outcome.It not only brings about low achievements, but also decreases people’s subjective sense of happiness.Procrastination is very popular in university students, which can take over a third of their daily events, and is becoming more and more serious. Because learning methods, study habits and learning environment are very different between in college and in high school. The freshmen have more free time and more control over their own education. Procrastination is the way which the freshmen failed to adapt to the university life.We hold that good organizational and time management skills are essential,and can accomplish work in a timely manner.This study is base on the theory of temporal discounting, and use scales and behavioral experiments to measure the effects of time management disposition and temporal discounting on procrastination. Accordingly, several intervention measures can been brought .The results indicated that :(1) Most of the freshman report their lives were full of procrastination,and their procrastination hindered them.(2)The procrastination of the freshmman had no significant differences between boys and girls. Girls’ self- reports implicited that they had more procrastination than boys. There was no significant differences between city and country. The procrastination of the freshmman had significant differences between he only -child and non -only–child,and worse in non -only–child.(3)It was found that procrastination with time management disposition and its three dimensions had negative correlation. There existed a positive relation between the freshman’s procrastination and impulsiveness.(4) There was no significant differences in temporal discounting rates between high and low procrastinators,and high procrastinators had higher temporal discounting rates than low ones.(5) The trend of temporal discounting degrees of procrastinators match to the temporal discounting curve.
