The relation between human and nature is one of the most important issues everresearched by philosophy, which is prominent again nowadays when human society gets intothe twenty first century because of its direct effect on the promising future of the developmentof human society. Frankfurt school has been regarded the relation between human and natureas one of the main subjects of its social critical theory, with Mr. Herbert Marcuse, thedistinguished scholar, as the epitomizer, not only because of his distinctive critical theory, butalso because he carved his own to put forward the conceive of reconciliation between humanand nature, going beyond the pessimism tradition of his school, and directly contributed toecological Marxist Ideas. Although the reconciliation thought of Mr. Herbert Marcuse was atype of philosophical reflection on the actual situation emerging during the developingprocess of Advanced Industrial Societies, and some viewpoints were unreasonable, thethought is of great help currently for correctly handling the global ecological issue, inparticular of theoretical significance and practical value for China properly dealing with therelationship between economic growth and ecological civilization construction, technologicaldevelopment and people oriented concept, and also for the construction of harmonious societyto realize sustainable development.This paper, abides by the principle of unified logic and history, starts with the formationof Mr. Herbert Marcuse’s reconciliation between human and nature, and focuses on hisdistinct works in different periods to conduct this analysis with indispensable illustration indetail. The full text includes three parts: the first one is an introduction to formationbackground and developing process of his reconciliation; the second part discusses threeaspects of his theory with focuses on the unity of human and nature, the criticizing oncatabolic relationship between human and nature, and the conceive of reconciliation; the thirdsection makes a comprehensive analysis and comment on the theoretical value, practicalworth and also its limitations.The features of this paper consist in excavation from several works of Mr. Herbert Marcuse, carding his reconciliation ideology, and discussion on the potential positive value. Infact, there are several theoretical researches on his social critical theory, but few on hisreconciliation theory, and this paper conducts a tentative summary study and also makes anobjective evaluation on his philosophical thinking.
