For a long time, influenced by such factors like foreign invasion, economic and culturalexchanges and so on, Korean has borrowed a large number of words from Chinese,Mongolian, Japanese and English. Vocabulary is the foundation and the substantive content oflanguage. Vocabulary teaching is a very important part in the teaching of foreign languages. As for Korean, Loanwords take a large proportion (10%) and they are the key points anddifficult points for Korean learners. Because of the differences in pronunciation and spelling,Korean learners usually find it difficult to learn Korean loanwords, and they are likely tomake mistakes which, unless corrected at proper time, will bring Korean learners troubles. For that reason, this research combines qualitative and quantiative methods and does a surveyon Korean loanword spelling of the Korean majors in the College of Foreign Languages inHebei University. The purpose is to present the forms of the mistkes and explain the reasonsfor the mistakes when Korean majors spell the loanwords, which can help to find the solutionand the teaching strategies. This research will not only give guidance to Korean learners inChina, but also help to improve the Korean teaching in China. This thesis mainly uses questionnaires to collect data and makes specific analysis of thedata. The data analysis results show that the correct rate of loanword spelling of Koreanmajor students is only50%;The mistakes of spelling can be divided into three kinds: firstsound error, vowel error and prop sound error; The form errors mainly result from students’failure to master spelling rule of loanwords and their poor ability to distinguish the Koreanpronunciations. Learners have strong desire to learn the spelling principles of the Koreanloanwords. It is necessary to enlarge the number and expand the scope of Korean loanwordsin the Korean materials.
