Researching On The Aesthetic Modernity Of Herber·t Marcuse

In the era of big bang of information technology, rapidity and effectiveness has becamethe center of people pursuiting, in which name all kinds of modernization products capturedpeople’s life. In this condition, the essence development of human being has been distortedand perceptual experience has been depressed by rational technology, which displays a stepbackward and called "alienation" by many scholars. In order to change this trend, Marcuseputs forward his own solutions on the basis of critiszing industry society, combining Marxismtheory and Freud’s erotixism theory. He thinks the first thing need to do to get rid of socialrepression is to restore human being’s perception ability, cultivating person with a newperceptual. Only by this way can subject consciousness of human being restored and humanliberation fundamentally achieved. Considersing this, he called for the liberation scheme ofaesthetic. Because of the automaticity of aesthetic form decided whose revolutionary, and thisalien identity decided whose disoperative rejecting with existed social order. Therefore,aesthetic art can give people the opportunity of liberation, making people obtain newdevelopment. From the current social condition, many scholars think Marcuse’s aestheticliberation scheme is too idealistic, however, there are still some scholars see some pointsworthy of referring.This paper elaborates and interpretes on Marcuse’s aesthetic liberation scheme. The firstchapter generaly analyzes the discussion and definition of scholars on aesthetic modernity, inwhich concludes the identity definition of Marcuse on aesthetic modernity-aesthetic art is thealien subject of society; in the second chapter, this paper specificly analyzes the criticalfunction of aesthetic modernity according to Marcuse’s social criticism theory from theperspectives of ideologies technology, false social welfare and repressed civilization; and thenthe third chapter, aiming at the critical function of aesthetic modernity, analyzes thereconstruction function of aesthetic modernity on the basis of related Marcus theory fromthree aspects of the happy peolple, the perfect society and the undepressed civilization;fourthly, it summarizes the present situation of whole aesthetic modernity by combiningshifting of Frankfurt school research center and occurred aesthetic problems (artindustrialization and art postmodernization); finally, this paper discusses the problems ofaesthetic modernity in China-missing responsibility of the intellectuals, pointing out in futuredevelopment we should critically treat Marcuse’s aesthetic theory.
