The Ersu are a distinct Chinese Tibetan branch of about30,000that are mainly spread out in Ya’an Prefecture, Shimian and Hanyuan counties; Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Ganluo, Yuexi, Mianning, and Muli counties; Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Jiulong County. The Ersu Tibetan traditional clothing has special features, with its culture rich and colorful. Therefore, this paper, based on the results of previous research, makes a deep study on Ersu Tibetan traditional clothing culture after a combination of field research and literature review.In this paper, the author first makes a general analysis of the overall outlook on the Ersu Tibetan traditional costumes. By combing with color matching, rules of usage and structures, the author tries to tease out the key elements of the Ersu Tibetans tradition from the two systems of clothing and accessories. Clothing includes hoods, tops, bottoms and shoes; and decoration is divided into hair style and hair accessories, headwear, waist ornaments, bracelets and other types. The article also further studies the materials and weaving processes of Ersu Tibetan traditional clothing.Then, the paper proceeds to discuss the cultural connotation of Ersu Tibetans traditional costumes. It holds that the Ersu Tibetans clothing not only has a symbolic function of discriminating age, gender and wealth, but also shows its harmony with the ecological environment of the Tibetan-Yi Corridor. The Ersu Tibetan clothing culture reflects the exchange and interaction between different ethnic cultures, which forms the regional characteristics within the Ersu Tibetan as well as carries the memory of history; therefore, it has precious historical and folklore value.And finally the author analyses the changes of Ersu Tibetan traditional costumes in the modernization process and the grim situation in face of it; and the thesis is concluded by putting forward some corresponding countermeasures and suggestions for the protection, inheritance and innovation of Ersu Tibetan traditional clothing.
