The Utilitarian And Non-utilitarian Art

The most utilitarian art movement of China--New Woodcut Movement has over more than half a century, development arrives today, the politics function and moral function of art has gradually weakened, art has also been rarely mention the utilitarian. Especially after reforming and opening, artistic atmosphere is relaxed, the western modern art idea has been widely accepted, the single mode of artistic creation before has been ended, when people mention of artistic, the first thought is its aesthetic function. Then, utilitarian art work is already out of our time? Art creation is no longer needs utilitarian idea? How to deal with the relations of utilitarian art and non-utilitarian art? This article discusses these issues, and from the perspective of utilitarian and non-utilitarian to classify and scan the past art concepts of China and abroad, to clear the past, for today. Especially at the crucial period that China is transforming to modernization, artistic utilitarianism is clearly a should not be abandoned task.
