The fact that Marx's philosophy entails moral theory has been confirmed by many philosophers, such as Kai Nielsen,Rodney Peffer,G.A.Cohen and other famous philosophers. So,what kind of moral theory is Marx's moral theory? The research on the nature of Marx's moral theory has become the focus of the theoretical circle. The first question to be clarified is: is Marx a utilitarian? With Adam Shaff,Derek Allen,Alan Buchanan and other scholars as representatives,Marx's moral theory is a kind of utilitarianism. However, this view is opposed by many scholars.Miller demonstrates that Marx and Aristotle are against utilitarianism by comparing the moral theories of Marx and Aristotle, while Peffer directly criticizes and refutes the thoughts of Shaff,Allen,Buchanan and other scholars, revealing the problems in the interpretation of utilitarianism. Then the question to be solved is: is Marx a non-utilitarian consequentialist? Miller points out that both Marx and Aristotle are non-utilitarian consequentialists who evaluate social system according to the life people promote. Both of them pursue "good" life, oppose taking rights as moral basis and pay attention to self-control.However,this view is refuted by Peffer.Marx and Aristotle have different views on equality, goodness and paternalism. At the same time,he thinks Marx is a "mixed deontologist".Through the analysis of Marx's moral theory,we can see that Peffer's criticism of Miller is unreasonable, and there are problems in his interpretation of "mixed deontologist" : this interpretation has a negative effect, neglects the concern for the Communist thought, and lacks practicality.Miller's interpretation of non-utilitarian consequentialism reveals that Marx and Aristotle are in the same line in moral theory, which conforms to Marx's thoughts, and is the overall correct interpretation of Marx's moral theory. However, there are some problems in Miller's interpretation, such as the historical and practical dimensions of Marxist moral theory, without in-depth analysis, which can not explain the profundity of meta theory in Marxist moral philosophy.
