Eugene Nida is one of the distinguished contemporary translation theorists andlinguists in the West. His translation theory has exerted a tremendo us influe nce on thetranslation studies bot h in China and western countries. There are a lot of articles and worksstudying Nida’s translation theory, among which the acade mic scholars have given theirinsightful comments about it in different perspectives. This provides relevant materials forfurther research on Nida’s theory. On the basis of the previous researches, the thesis willmake a study on Nida’s theory from the perspective of eco-translatology, with the purpose ofhaving a better understanding of the essence of Nida’s translation theory. The thesis starts with an overview of the theoretical foundation of Nida’s trans lationtheory and its main concepts and ideas; then discusses the basic terms and concerns ofeco-translatology, explores the feasibility of applying eco-translatology to explain atranslation theory, and proves the possibility of using eco-translatology to illustrate Nida’stranslation theory. Finally, the thesis elucidates Nida’s trans lation theory from the perspectiveof eco-translatology in terms of the nature of translation, the process of translation and theprinciple of translation. The conclusion of the thesis is: from the perspective ofeco-translatology, as for Nida, the nature of translation is survival of the fittest; the process oftranslation is adaptation and selection, and the principle of translation is selection throughelimination. This thesis exploring Nida’s theory from perspective of eco-translatology provides anew perspective to study a translation theor y, with the hope of broadening the horizon ofthose who are devoting themselves in the field of translation theor y.
