This report is aimed to mainly discuss the application of the theory of translationalshifts during translation practice. Under the framework of the theory of Catford’stranslational shifts, the author discusses specific cases encountered during thetranslation process. Through the discussion, the author also comes to three conclusions:translational shifts are inevitable sometimes in order to achieve translationalequivalence; translational shifts should get rid of formal correspondence; shifts on thenon-language level (esp. the cultural level) are also unavoidable. This report consists of five parts, namely the task of translation, the process oftranslation, the theoretical discussion, the case study, and the conclusion.
