A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Development Project Of The Elevator Coated Steel Belt Between A Company In China And B Corporation In America

The translation of legal contract plays more and more important role in the international trade with therapid development of economic globalization. The translation of legal documents is involved in business,finance, insurance, accounting and law. The translation directly determines investors’ cooperation withother parties and affects their interests.The author discussed the English-Chinese translation of the Development Project of the ElevatorCoated Steel Belt in this report. The author was commissioned by the manager of A company for thetranslation of documents in the Development Project of the Elevator Coated Steel Belt. There were2,561words in the documents in the Development Project of the Elevator Coated Steel Belt including6,560words about Master of Development Agreement,1,951words about Statement of Work and5,000wordsabout the patent of steel coat with iron and zinc. The patent of steel coat with iron and zinc was remised toA company by B company. It took the author and a proofreader11days to translate it. Through the analysisof translation procedures and texts, the thesis reported two key aspects of legal document translation: oneaspect was translation strategies and the skills of the accurate transfer of the original text, the other aspectwas the exploration of the proper methods to guarantee the quality and the speed of translation.The thesis analyzes the text type of documents in the Development Project of the Elevator CoatedSteel Belt according to Peter Newmark’s classification of text theory. The thesis discovered that the texts ofdocuments in the Development Project of the Elevator Coated Steel Belt were informative with vocativepurpose by analyzing the vocabulary features, sentence features, tenses and voice of the developmentproject documents in detail. When the legal documents were translated, the author adopted the twotranslation strategies as guidance and used proper skills and techniques.So the author succeeded in translating accurately the original documents and expressing the thoughtsof law of the original documents based on the translation strategies of the foreignizaiton with thedomestication.At the same time, the author guaranteed the quality and the speed of translation.
