This research will use the concept of foreignization which Lawrence Venuticreated.By context analysis in words, sentence, paragraph and discourse, I amintended to find out the main translation strategy of the Japanese version of the RedSorghum/. By comparing the similarity and difference between the origin work andJapanese translation in words, sentence, paragraph and discourse, I will find out thespecific ways of translation and what kind of translation strategy they show.The analysis of words includes name of human and place, appellations, words ofcolor and so on. The analysis of sentences includes proverb, rhetoric, and structure ofsentences. The analysis of discourse includes paragraph arrangement, chapterdivision, and style of writing. By listing a great number of examples, and also clarifythem by specific ways of translation, I intend to find out what kind of translationstrategy these ways show, each other. In the end, I will find out what kind oftranslation strategy that the plates which are listed above (proverb, rhetoric, chapterdivision and so on) show.Finally, the conclusion is foreignization and domestication are both used in theJapanese translation. But foreignization is the main strategy. In the end, I also analyzethe reason why the translator mainly uses the foreignization strategy. The Japanesetranslation is put in one of the serious book series of which the readers are peoplewho are interested in Chinese literature and study about it. Their main purpose is notto get some kinds of joy from the book. So the expectation of the readers affects thetranslation strategy which the translator took.
