A Research On The Status Quo Of The Traditional Chinese Medicine Under The Influence Of The Western Cultural Imperialism

The Western developed countries take advantage of their advancedtechnology to spread their value, belief and ideology through a variety ofmedia to infuse the third world countries’ original cultural system. As oneof the third world countries, China also has undergone a series of attackto their cultural system from the Western cultural imperialism. As one ofthe most important traditional cultural components, TCM has irreversiblybeen negatively influenced by the Western cultural imperialism. Thispaper intends to testify that to what degree the TCM has been negativelyinfluenced by Western cultural imperialism as well as to illustrate fromwhat aspects the Western cultural imperialism has influenced TCM. Acorrespondent strategy for the further development also is provided at theend of this thesis. Multiple research methods have been adopted in thisthesis to ensure its rationality. Questionnaire and interview are the twomajor research instruments during the study to explore the targetedpopulation’s attitude towards TCM as well as the status quo of TCM. Theselected statistics and interview materials could be used to analyze theinfluence of Western cultural imperialism imposed upon TCM from amore objective perspective. This thesis hopes to help TCM fight againstthe attack from the Western cultural imperialism and reestablish a rationalattitude towards TCM.
