The theory of cultural imperialism is one of the main topic of the post-colonialcultural critique, its emergence and development of a specific historical background.Therefore, in the historical context of post-colonialism, from the perspective ofcultural philosophy and cultural studies to the ideology of Marxism as a guide, usinga macro overall research and micro-case analysis of a combination of researchmethods, the use of history and logic combining approach, the use of scientificcomparison, as well as the classic interpretation of the main representative of thethinking of the cultural imperialism theory, the cultural imperialism of theglobalization process, reveal the emergence and course of development of the theoryof cultural empire, and its main theoretical origin. On this basis, the Edward Said’sOrientalism, the theory of cultural imperialism, Tomlinson’s Cultural Imperialism asan individual case and focus on the object, which summed up the characteristics ofcultural imperialism theory, theory of cultural imperialism, contradictions and overallobjective of the evaluation problem, and thus the cultural imperialism.Culture is the foundation and core of the nation-state identity, a symbol ofnational identity. Accompanied by the acceleration of globalization, and culturalexchanges between the various nation-states also deepening the culture of the era ofglobalization has been quietly approaching. Cultural imperialism is the name ofcultural exchange under the pretext of opportunities for cultural exchanges amongcountries in the process of cultural globalization, and strong cultural infiltration andexpansion, the implementation of their own culture, lifestyle, values, dumping ofcultural products and to undermine his country cultural roots and cultural unity, erosion and undermine his country’s sovereignty and endanger his country’s nationalcultural identity, the impact of national cultural industries of other countries,hindering the normal exchanges between the cultural patterns of the world. China’snational culture is also facing the penetration of the cultural challenges ofglobalization and cultural imperialism, since the reform and opening up the economyhas made great achievements, and culture has been some impact, and faced with thesimultaneous development of cultural and economic problems, how to defend thequestion of the unity of the Chinese culture. This also requires that we must recognizeour cultural status quo, clearly affected the extent and possible hazards of nationalculture, and actively learn from the world, all ethnic groups to maintain the localculture, the development experience of the national culture, to the hills of stone attackjade, plan an active cultural policy, maintain, promote and develop Chinese nationalculture.Through research and analysis of the theory of cultural imperialism, weunderstand the essence of cultural imperialism, not only has important practicalsignificance for us to strengthen the cultural and strategic research to ensure thesecurity of national culture, but also conducive to strengthening the national culturalsoft power constructioncritically assimilate different cultures, and thus a firm’sposition and beliefs of Marxism to provide a positive reference and intellectualsupport for the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics and culturalundertakings.The full text is divided into four parts:The first part discusses the cultural imperialism theory of the emergence anddevelopment.Detailed combing through the political background of the theory andpractice are two different levels of cultural imperialism and the development processallows us to have a more profound and clear understanding of the nature of culturalimperialism. The second part discusses the theory of cultural imperialism, the kernel problem.First of all, pointed out that Lenin’s Imperialism, the theory of cultural hegemony inGramsci and Fanon’s thinking is the main theoretical origins of the theory of culturalimperialism; mainly based on Edward Orientalism and Cultural Imperialism, andTomlinson’s cultural empire theory as a case, the specific interpretation of theirthinking.The third part discusses cultural globalization in the process of culturalimperialism. Discrimination of cultural globalization and cultural imperialism, andstressed that the two are not necessarily linked, and then reveals the true purpose ofcultural imperialism through the cultural process of globalization, cultural penetrationand invasion.The fourth part focuses on the strategic choice of our Chinese response toWestern cultural imperialism policy. Proposed that we should adhere to the guidingideology of Marxism, adhere to the development of cultural industries, adhere to thesubjectivity of the national culture, and increase cultural awareness, and enhancecultural soft power building, to strengthen positive cultural exchanges andcooperation between countries, and enhance national cohesion and the centripetalforce to keep the mentality of the big country.
