Substance has the property of space. In modern Chinese the classifier is closelyconnected with the property of space inevitably as a kind of words to weigh things.Early before the twenty-first Century Chinese scholars have noticed that there existsthe classifier with the meaning of space in Chinese. They try to explore the matchingrules of the classifier and nouns from new perspective and with new theories. Basedon the study that previous scholars have made and some related theories, this paperwill make the classifier with the meaning of three-dimensional space as the the objectof study which can arouse the stereoscopic vision image in human brainby combining a large number of data from the corpus. So as to reunderstand the usingrules of Chinese classifier from a totally new point of view.It is analyzed through synchronic and diachronic angles. We defined the concept of classifier with the meaning of three-dimensional spacein modern Chinese in the synchronic level and then made a reasonableclassification from different angles. We explored the syntactic function of theclassifier with the meaning of space. Putting adjectives into the middle of"one+classifier" has been discussed as well. We also discussed the matchingbetween the classifier with the meaning of three-dimensional space and nouns fromthe synchronic level. In the diachronic level we mainly inspected the diachronic evolvement of theclassifier with the meaning of three-dimensional space, the focus is the diachronicevolution of the matching between the classifier and the nouns. The second partanalyzed the motivations of the diachronic evolvement.
